Congresswoman McClain Delaney calls on FEMA to reverse cutting National Fire Academy funding

Maryland Congresswoman April McClain Delaney says in floor remarks that she rose in defense of the National Fire Academy located in her district in Emmitsburg, Maryland, where courses were eliminated by the administration on Friday with immediate effect, despite the Academy being nationally renowned as a place where tens of thousands of firefighters and EMS personnel joined top experts annually to train and share best practices in fire and hazard safety, with over 90 percent of supervisors reporting their firefighters were better prepared to respond to emergencies due to Academy training, and with worsening wildfires and other severe national disasters threatening communities nationwide, the education and training provided by the NFA had never been more important for national preparedness, which was why she called on FEMA to reverse the decision and urged congressional colleagues to support firefighters.
