Protests Against CDU Continue Following AfD-Supported Bundestag Motion
BERLIN, GERMANY - FEBRUARY 2: (EDITOR'S NOTE: Audio/music licensing is not included.) Protesters, including one holding a sign that reads "Merz: First set it on fire, then set it on fire" ("Merz: Erst zündeln dann Brandstiften") march along 17th June Street to protest against cooperation by political parties with the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) on February 2, 2025 in Berlin, Germany. The protest follows a recent attempt by Friedrich Merz, chancellor candidate and leader of the Christian Democrats (CDU), to pass new legislation on immigration and security knowing passage depended on support from the AfD. The attempt ignited nationwide protests and condemnation, as it breaks a taboo on cooperation with the AfD at the federal level. Germany is scheduled to hold snap federal parliamentary elections on February 23. (Footage by Christian Ender/Getty Images)
