Comet Ping Pong Tries to Survive With Takeout Only Service
WASHINGTON, DC- APRIL 22: The Comet neon sign adorns the Comet Ping Pong restaurant on Connecticut Ave. NW in Washington, D.C. on April 22, 2020. The mid-century modern style sign is an eye-catching element on the exterior of the restaurant. James Alefantis is the owner of the Comet Ping Pong sit-down pizza restaurant which would normally have a very busy dining room. Alefantis has had to gear his restaurant to be safe in the Coronavirus era and become a takeout only establishment. He is trying to strike a balance between upbeat and appropriately somber in the design of the place which is now takeout only. Alefantis has rearranged continuously to meet health guidelines and maximize efficiency by using the ping pong themed tables where folks once dined as staging area to get the orders out efficiently.
