German submarine U-8 was a Type IIB U-boat of the German Kriegsmarine, based out of Kiel during World War II. It was one of the smaller versions, and was first launched on July 16, 1935. Its first commander was Harald Grosse. U-8 would have 18 commanders total over the course of its service, the last being Jurgen Kriegshammer. It was too small to undertake sustained operations far away from the home support facilities and its primary role was found to be in the training schools, preparing new German naval officers for command.Source of image: KGB archive Ukraine 2010.
