Maurice Thorez Casting His Vote

(Original Caption) Maurice Thorez, head of the French Communist party, is shown as he cast his ballot in Sunday's general elections. France was rocked by the stunning political upset that built Communist party strength in the next assembly to 145 seats and gave an unexpected 51 seats to a new movement headed by Pierre Poujade. Neither of the center blocs led by Mendes-France and Edgar Faure wound up anything like a commanding position in his own group.
