Portrait of Achille Compagnoni

(Original Caption) A plane coming from Pakistan landed at Ciampino Airport carrying Achille Compagnoni, Mario Fantini, and Ubaldo Rey, three members of the Italian expedition of the K-2 mountain. They were received at Ciampino Airport by G. Scalfaro, Under-Secretary of the Italian presidency, Mrs. Desio, wife of the chief of the expedition, the minister of Pakistan, Mr. Aktar, Hussain, with his wife, a representative of the city of Rome, and an enormous crowd. The Pakistan minister offered them a wreath of flowers as is the Pakistan custom. Photo shows: Achille Compagnoni, who lost three fingers of the left hand when it froze.
