UTTARAKHAND, INDIA - 2016/10/12: The Shivling peak, culminating at 6,543 meters, stands over the Tapovan in the western Himalaya near the mouth of the Gamaukh Glacier, the source of the Bhagirathi River which marks the origin of the Ganges River. Its name comes from Shiva, a main Hindu god. The Tapovan is a vast meadow stretching amongst high peaks at an altitude of 4,500 meters. The Ganges, one of the world's longest river, flows on 2,525 km to the south and enters Bangladesh where it empties into the Bay of Bengal in the Indian Ocean.
