Group Holding Hope Diamond in Package

(Original Caption) The U.S.Acquired the fabulous Hope Diamond today for permanent display at the Smithsonian Institution. Mrs. Harry Winston, wife of the New York jeweler who turned the deep blue stone over to the Institution, displays it at a presentation ceremony. At left is Postmaster General Arthur Summerfield, who mail service delivered the gem, and at right, Dr.Leonard Carmichael, Secretary of the Smithsonian, who accepted it.
